Service Division :: Material & Component Upgrades
Re-Engineering & Upgraded materials for Bottling Chutes

|

|
The original part was chrome plated brass. When the chrome plating wore through, the brass did not last long!
This is the problem our customer was facing. Using one of his replacement parts we re-engineered and produced parts new components made from wear resistant duplex stainless steel.
Our Replacement parts have worked so well that we have yet to receive a call to replace one!

Casing Material Upgrade
The above casing was originally made of gray cast iron. This material was suitable for the service under most conditions. However, on occasion, a rock would find its way into the pump. This would cause impact damage to the casing and periodically result in casing failure.
Our solution was to make the casting in Ductile Iron. This material has much the same characteristics as the cast iron, but has the ability to absorb most of the impacts.
This has eliminated one of the failure modes of this application.
Screw Press Split Flange:
- Equipment: Screw Press
Wet pulp and water are introduced at one end then transferred along a screw with a decreasing area. The water is pressed out concentrating the pulp.
- Problem:
The final section of the barrel experiences high solids, with low water. This causes this section to wear out first. To replace this section the drive, screw and first stage section of the barrel must be removed. This resulted in a lengthy down time for replacement.
- Solution "A":
CoBeta produced a split flanged section to go into the high wear area. This allowed the final stage section to be replaced with out dismantling the screw press.
- Solution "B":
After the first unit had been in service and worked satisfactorily, the customer contacted us to order a spare for stores. We suggested that the CF8M (316 stainless steel) be upgraded to CD4Mcu. This material has similar corrosion capabilities to CF8M, but is substantially better under abrasion. The life of the split flange has been increased by 2 to 3 times and allowed for a much faster change out when required.
