Service Division :: Equipment Rebuilding
Re-building of Large Double Suction Pump:
Equipment: Large Double Suction Pump
Used for circulating cooling water in a large steel mill. This pump had been in service for nearly 20 years, and had pumped millions of gallons of water. The performance of the pump had diminished.
Problem:
The vanes had worn paper thin, in the eye area of the impeller. The packing had nearly worn through the sleeves, new bearings, and lip seals were required.
Solution "Stage 1":
CoBeta personnel viewed the pump on site, prepared a quotation outlining known replacement items, and their cost. An additional list of possible replacement items was quoted as well. This gave the customer a "full view" of the re-build.
Solution "Stage 2":
The customer shipped the pump to our London, Ontario facility. CoBeta produced a new impeller, sleeves, and sleeve nuts. The shaft was inspected for damage, and found to be re-usable. New bearings, lip seals added, and then shipped back to the customer.
This service provided the customer with a cost effective means of maintaining plant operation. This pump will again offer years of reliable service, when rebuilt properly.

Large Valve repair:

A 42" gate valve in continuous service since 1938 had worn the bronze seal rings, and guides out. We weld repaired the badly worn areas of the disk then re-machined the disk, and the body to accept new seal rings. The guides were replaced, and the lifting mechanism was repaired.
The picture shows the valve body and disk under pressure test to insure tight closing.
Replacing this valve would have required substantial alterations to the inlet piping. Our rebuilding allows this valve to again return to service, and provide years of continuous service.
Some of the equipment we repair comes in very bad condition. In this case the bearing housing had been flooded with dirty water. This mixed with the oil, resulting in a grey sludge in the bearing housing.
The bearings had been completely destroyed, and the one bearing race was fused to the shaft. As bad as this failure was, we still were able to save the bearing housing, replacing the shaft, bearings, and gaskets. We also 'beefed up" the sealing system in an effort to stop this from re-occurring.
Call us before you scrap or discard your process equipment. The repair cost of even the most badly damaged equipment may be less than replacement.
